New Café-Bar opens in the Arena

The Arena Theatre’s new café-bar is now open to staff and students offering a range of drinks and food.

The newly refurbished outlet is part of the Arena expanding its opening hours to appeal to more staff, students and the wider public.

The theatre, in Wulfruna Street and part of the University’s City Campus, now opens Monday to Saturday 10am to 10pm. During the day it will be offering coffee supplied by Yorkshire company Roastology, tea, hot chocolate, soft drinks and a range of sandwiches, paninis, cakes and snacks.

From 5pm it will also operate as a licensed bar offering a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. A new outside decked area has also been created.

The venue, which is funded by the University and the Arts Council, has a 150 seat main theatre along with 60 space Tilstone Studio and meeting rooms.

A new programme is also being offered including a Monday Night Film Club with screenings at 6pm. A special screening of The Greatest Showman will be staged on October 22 to launch the new programme for invited staff and student guests.

Prices will range from £6 for the public, £5 for concessions and £3.50 for staff and students and season tickets will also be available.

New Work Tuesdays will play host to a spoken word night and live music will be the order of the day on Wednesdays.

A number of theatre supper nights will be held on October 23 and November 27 where guests can get food and drink as part of their experience.

The Arena has been running for 42 years and stages around 200 performances every year.
