Student Update: Mid Semester Reminder of Support

Dear students,
As November brings shorter days and colder temperatures, it’s a good time to remind you of a few important things to help you stay on track. Please know that support is always available, whether you need help with your studies, finance, wellbeing or accessibility needs, or would simply value someone to talk to.
We've put together a brief guide to help you access support, and you'll find lots more information about support available across the University, our partners and external services from our student news page and in the WLV Student newsletter out later this month.
Utilise available resources: Make the most of the resources we offer to support your studies and assessments. Your Academic Coach or Personal Tutor is always ready to help, and don’t forget about the library resources available on all three campuses and online.
The Skills for Learning team is offering drop-ins for assessment and study skills support at the following times:
- City (Harrison Library): Monday - Friday, 11am - 2pm
- Walsall Library: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11am - 2pm
- Telford Library: Wednesday, 11am - 2pm
- Springfield Campus Foyer: Thursday, 12 - 2pm
Access library support and information at wlv.ac.uk/lib.
Financial Support: If you’re concerned about finances, remember that we have a dedicated Student Money Team who can work with you to ensure you are receiving everything you are entitled to. This team also oversees our hardship fund. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, please reach out via money@wlv.ac.uk or visit this webpage.
Following the recent government announcement that tuition fees will rise from 1 August 2025, the University will be sending you more information about this later in the academic year.
Accessibility, Health and Wellbeing: For those who need to discuss accessibility within your course, disabilities or mental health and wellbeing, we have a team of dedicated colleagues who can support you in registering with any number of the teams within Student Life.
On Tuesday 3 December 2024 our Accessibility, Disability and Inclusion Team, partnered with the Students' Union are running an event to mark Disability History Month. This will take place between 10 am and 2 pm in the Student Life Centre in Ambika Paul (MD) Building, within Harrison Library.
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Team are running a series of events throughout the remainder of semester one: Join an online wellbeing workshop here.
Student Wellbeing Champions are available in the Student Life Centre (Ambika Paul Building), every Tuesday between 1pm and 2pm, and all Student Life services have a daily presence in the same space between 10am and 4pm.
The Chaplaincy offers pastoral support for people of all faith and none. Prayer rooms and spaces for quiet reflection can be found across City, Walsall and Telford campuses.
On Thursday 5 December there will be a celebration of Global Christmas traditions, with a brass band in the Courtyard at City Campus from 4pm-8pm; followed by the annual Carol Service at St. Peter's Church on Thursday 12 December. Find out more about support and events led by the Chaplaincy at: wlv.ac.uk/Chaplaincy.
Your safety on campus: When you’re out and about, be mindful of your personal safety. Download the SafeZone app for a direct line to our security team. And don't forget to bring your ID Pass when you're on campus, you will need this to access University buildings, and may be asked to show your ID to staff.
Ask for help: Contact ASK@WLV if you need a replacement ID card or if you have any other enquiries about your studies or support available from the University.
Students' Union: Don't forget, your Students' Union offers free, impartial, and confidential advice and representation for all students through the Advice and Representation Centre (ARC).
Best wishes,
Professor Gill Knight
