Graduate acts out his ambition on the big screen

25/11/2019

A University of Wolverhampton graduate is acting out his ambition after starring in a new film which shines the spotlight on domestic violence against men.

Actor Jet Summan, who trained at the Birmingham School of Acting and graduated from the University in 2013 with a Fire & Rescue degree, appears in the short film Damage, directed by Fernando Antonio Maffei from Kidderminster.

The film is now being shown at select venues across the UK and will be screened at UK and international film festivals and potentially may be available on various online streaming platforms in the near future.

In the film, shot in Worcestershire by Bafta-nominated cinematographer Alex Metcalfe, Jet plays Rav, a young man who is trying to find a way out of his abusive relationship with a controlling partner.

Jet, who is originally from Wolverhampton and has lived in Telford, said:  “I won a scholarship to study drama at the Birmingham School of Speech and Drama but I’d always wanted to educate myself further and get a degree.  I’d always been physically active and supportive of services such as police, fire and armed forces, so I chose to study the Fire & Rescue degree.

“I met some really nice people at the University, people from all different walks of life, backgrounds and cultures. The teachers were really supportive and helpful and I learned a lot during my time studying at the University of Wolverhampton.

“My advice to students studying now would be to take everything on board, stay disciplined, stay motivated, build a big network, get as much training as you can, don’t ever give up, learn and absorb it.”

Jet has previously appeared on TV in Birds of a Feather, Holby City, Doctors and a number of high-profile commercials, as well as in the feature film Artichoke.
