Coronavirus update for students: Monday, 16 March 2020

Please be aware that this information was shared with students by email and correct at the time of sending. For the latest Covid-19 guidance, please visit our coronavirus webpages: www.wlv.ac.uk/coronavirus. If you are a student who has a query or needs support, please log a helpcall with ASK@WLV in e:Vision (www.wlv.ac.uk/evision).

The wellbeing of students and staff continues to be the University’s key priority and we are encouraging everyone to be mindful of their own health and that of their family and friends at the current time. Visit NHS 111 Online for the latest health guidance.

If you have suspected or confirmed Coronavirus you need to contact your Faculty Student Services between 9am and 5pm on the numbers below:

  • Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing students: 01902 518800
  • Faculty of Science and Engineering students: 01902 322129
  • Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Science students: 01902 321789

If you are unsure which Faculty you belong to, please call any of the numbers so we can direct you.

Individual health concerns

Students with underlying health conditions, or those who care for family members with an underlying health condition, may be in a position where they are no longer able to attend university in person.  The University will endeavour to put in place support and resources to ensure that that your studies will not be adversely affected.

Please contact Faculty Student Services on the numbers above for help and advice on these issues.

The University remains open, but any students who are worried about coming into University to attend lectures should instead access their learning online through Canvas where this is available.

Cleaning

We would like to reassure students that cleaning throughout our buildings and campuses has already been increased. From today (Monday) our cleaning staff will be further increasing cleaning of areas such as bathrooms/toilets, hand rails, door handles and entrances.

In addition, we are increasing the cleaning in student accommodation, specifically around the shared areas such as kitchens, social areas, bathrooms, toilets, entrances and door handles.

Catering facility staff have also increased the cleaning of tables.

Placements

The University is not cancelling student placements at the present time. However if whichever organisation you are working at cancels the placement, you need to contact your Faculty Student Services on the number above to let them know. Your learning outcomes will not be adversely affected by this, but you do need to let your Faculty know.

International students

If you are an international student and you wish to return home and are able to do so, we would support you in doing this.  If possible, we would ask you to complete your attendance monitoring checks this week before leaving.  We will endeavour to provide you with as full support as possible for your studies through Canvas.   Anyone considering this is asked to contact the relevant Faculty Student Services on the numbers above.

Coursework and Examinations

We are aware that some students have concerns about assessments and upcoming examinations. Written coursework should be submitted online in the normal way. For other assessments and examinations these are currently planned to take place as normal. Nevertheless, this is obviously a fast-moving situation and we will keep you updated.

Communications

We will be issuing daily updates for students across our channels, including via the current student news pages, social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook), my WLV app, Canvas and the University screens. A key source of information is the dedicated coronavirus webpage www.wlv.ac.uk/coronavirus and the Frequently Asked Questions which includes a section for students.
