Coronavirus Student Update: Library Closures & Bus Suspension: Tuesday 24 March 2020
Following the Prime Minister's announcement of social restrictions which came into force yesterday evening (Monday 23 March 2020), all campus libraries have now closed until further notice to ensure the safety of students and staff.
If you were one of the students who had been relying on physical access to the library please email email@example.com or online chat at wlv.ac.uk/lib/assist.
Online Library Services & Extending the Digital Library Collection
Whilst the libraries may be closed, there is a still a wealth of online resources and support available for students: https://www.wlv.ac.uk/lib/
The Library team has also identified a number of activities to improve access to online content for members of staff and students. These activities include: extending the digital library collection; converting print textbooks to eBooks; upgrading to unlimited usage for existing eBooks; collating Open Access resources; and signing up to additional content made temporarily available by publishers. Also, If there are any key resources that the Library does not have access to online we will make every effort to source these.
Bus Services Suspended
The Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday also included movement and travel in his directive instructing people to avoid the use of public transport, so to this end we have suspended the inter campus bus services with immediate effect until further notice. We will update students and staff when the situation changes.
We will be making contact with International students over the course of this week to give you individual updates so please check your emails.
Students should be aware that there has been a national warning about a potential increase in cyber crime as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak. We would remind all students to remain vigilant and there is some useful advice about phishing emails available from Digital Services.
We are continuing to communicate with students via our social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) as well as through our dedicated University webpages. View all the latest student updates on our main Coronavirus page.
You will find lots of resources around looking after your health and mental wellbeing and we have also recently posted information for students studying for Postgraduate Research or PhD qualifications.
Visit NHS 111 Online for the latest health guidance. This includes the latest advice and guidance about the symptoms and what to do if you think you may have Coronavirus.
Public Health England is regularly publishing information, advice and guidance on Coronavirus. This includes the latest travel information.
The wellbeing of our students continues to be the University’s priority and we are encouraging everyone to continue to be mindful of their own health and that of their family and colleagues. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and co-operation during this time.
