Coronavirus advice for students: Friday, 13 March

13/03/2020

The University is continuing to closely monitor the national situation regarding Coronavirus and regular meetings have been taking place over the last month to plan our response.

The health and wellbeing of our staff and students is our top priority, and all decisions are being taken with this in mind.

The University remains open at the current time and we have launched a dedicated webpage: www.wlv.ac.uk/coronavirus which includes some Frequently Asked Questions. There are sections providing specific advice for our students and staff, as well as prevention, travel advice and general information.

Placements

The University recognises that because this is an exceptional situation, placements may be disrupted and we will work with students to ensure their studies are successfully completed. Anyone with concerns can contact their Faculty Student Services:

  • Faculty of Science and Engineering students: 01902 322129
  • Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Science students: 01902 321789

International students

If you are an international student and you wish to return home and are able to do so, your studies will not be adversely affected by this decision. Anyone considering this is asked to contact the relevant Faculty Student Services on the numbers above.

Students with underlying health conditions

Students with underlying health conditions, or those who care for family members with an underlying health condition, are encouraged to contact Faculty Student Services on the above numbers who will ensure that you are supported and that there is no disruption to your learning outcomes.

General advice

We continue to monitor this evolving situation and we will communicate any changes to students as soon as any decisions are taken at a local or national level. This will be via our website, Canvas, My WLV and social media channels.

We are in touch with other universities to ensure we are all sharing best practice and liaising with our local councils and public health teams regarding situations at a local level.

Public Health England is regularly publishing information, advice and guidance on Coronavirus. This includes the latest travel information.

Advice and guidance about the symptoms and what to do if you think you may have Coronavirus is available via NHS 111 Online.
