As part of International Women's Day, the Equality and Diversity Unit is holding a series of talks from 12.30pm to 4pm in MC415 (Millenium City Building, City Campus) including a special talk from entertainment journalist Hanna Flint about how Hollywood needs to better consider the intersection of gender and ethnicity. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Later on in the day, The Arena Theatre will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of women getting the vote in the UK, by hosting a free screening of Suffragette at 4.30pm. Starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Whishaw, and Meryl Streep, this films looks at the events leading up Emily Davison's death whilst trying to protest at The Derby.
