Students to return to campus in September

The University of Wolverhampton will welcome students back onto campus in September.

Welcome Week will take place from Monday, 21 September 2020 with teaching starting for undergraduate students on Monday, 28 September 2020.

Postgraduate students will be starting slightly later this year on Monday, 26 October 2020 to enable the University to manage the numbers of new students arriving on campus and to ensure staff members can provide the extra support to students on arrival.

Teaching will take the form of blended learning – which means a mixture of both face-to-face delivery on campus and virtual lessons or lectures.

Safety in light of the COVID-19 pandemic is being taken seriously and staff are returning to campus in a phased way to ensure social distancing measures are in place to protect the University community.

The University is closely monitoring the advice from the UK Government and liaising with Public Health experts at the local authority.

Professor Geoff Layer, Vice-Chancellor, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming both new and returning students back to campus in September. For the last few months we have been working incredibly hard to adapt the way we teach and support our students during the COVID-19 pandemic and this will continue to be our focus as we move into the new academic year.

“The University wants to reassure our current students, applicants, staff and their families that the safety of our community is our top priority. Social distancing measures will be in place on our campuses throughout the first semester, which starts on Monday, 21 September 2020, and we will continue to monitor the advice from the UK Government around this.

“Blended learning ensures we can deliver small seminars face-to-face, whilst also providing enhanced learning materials through our virtual learning environment which could be in the form of videos, quizzes, live virtual seminars and so on. Over the last three months we have been listening to students and many have commented how much they have enjoyed having more blended learning resources, providing them with the flexibility to watch and re-watch lectures and undertake studying at times that works for them.

“We are also managing the volume of new students starting by staggering the start dates, so postgraduate students will be starting slightly later this year on Monday, 26 October 2020. This ensures we can provide the extra support to students on arrival.

“We will be working hard to create a sense of community on the campus whilst adhering to social distancing rules. There is no doubt that the next academic year will be challenging for students and the academic community who will be supporting them, but through the power of learning we continue to adapt, enhance and strive to make sure our students achieve their goals.”
