Student Update: Postgraduate Course Start Date

Following the recent government announcement outlining the easing of lockdown restrictions, I want to update you on what plans the University is putting in place over the coming months for your studies and to prepare for the next academic year.

Some postgraduate courses will be starting slightly later this year on Monday, 26 October 2020 to enable the University to manage the numbers of new and returning students arriving on campus and to ensure staff members can provide extra support to students on arrival.

To find out if your course has been affected please see the list below.

Given the need to ensure that the campus is safe for all our students and staff we will need to put in place social distancing restrictions which will limit the numbers of people who can be in a room and moving around a building at any one time. This means that some teaching, particularly lectures, will take place online with other activities, such as seminars and workshops, being a mixture of on-campus and virtual delivery. We will be providing details of what this looks like on each programme as soon as possible.

We also appreciate that some students may not be able to return to campus at all because they will need to continue to shield and we will seek to make arrangements to support them on an individual basis.

I want to reassure you that the safety of students and staff remains our top priority. Safety in light of the COVID-19 pandemic is being taken seriously and staff are returning to campus in a phased way to ensure social distancing measures are in place to protect the University community.

The University is closely monitoring the advice from the UK Government and liaising with Public Health experts at the local authority.

Where to find more information and support

You will find our dedicated web page here: www.wlv.ac.uk/coronavirus along with Frequently Asked Questions on a range of topics for students which are regularly updated.  If you cannot find the answer here then please do email us at: student@wlv.ac.uk.

If you are a new student and funding your course through Student Finance England you will need to apply for your funding as soon as possible. This is the only way to make sure you have money in time for the start of your course, you can do that here: www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login

See our Postgraduate Financial Support web page for more information on financial support you may be able to access.

Whether you are a new student to the University starting your postgraduate journey with us, or progressing to the next year of study, we are looking forward to welcoming you back to campus in October. I do appreciate that we are all still living in uncertain times and our priority must be to ensure that all of our students stay safe and well whilst at the same time continuing to be successful in your studies and in your chosen career path.

Professor Julia Clarke

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience)
