Volunteers Sought For Mayor's Community Weekend
Staff and students are being asked to volunteer and get involved in an exciting range of activities for the first ever Mayor’s Community Weekend at the end of June.
With the help of almost £60,000-worth of National Lottery funding, nearly 150 events are taking place across the West Midlands across the weekend of June 30/July 1.
This follows the setting-up of a new partnership between the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and the Big Lottery Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
People from across the region will be getting together to play sports, volunteer in their community, or maybe just enjoy a bite to eat!
West Midlands Mayor Andy Street said: “The Community Weekend is something I’ve wanted to do even before becoming Mayor.
“We have a strong sense of community in the West Midlands and this weekend will help build stronger bonds between neighbourhoods by getting together to do something positive.
“This may be volunteering, eating together or doing something active as a community.
“I am looking forward to joining hundreds of people across the West Midlands to celebrate their community over the weekend.”
Volunteers are being sought in the following areas:
- To welcome people to events and help organisers manage the event.
- Communications at the events, such as taking pictures to share on social media.
- First aid. Trained individuals are required who can help in the event of minor accidents.
Anyone interested is asked to email marketing@wmca.org.uk and someone will reply and link the volunteers up with the most suitable event closest to them.
