The Sports Campus has been chosen by the FA as the venue for the men’s and women’s semi finals taking place tomorrow, followed by the finals on Sunday.
There is also some local and University interest in the last four with Birmingham Futsal Club still involved in the men’s competition.
Coached by Ikhlaq Hussain, who also coaches the University of Wolverhampton’s Futsal team, Birmingham take on Reading Escolla in the second semi final, at 4.30pm.
There are games scheduled for during Open Day opening times, including the first men’s semi final which will see London Helvecia take on Grimsby Town at 10am.
Then the women take centre stage, with The Has Beens locking horns with South London Ladies at 12.15pm, and Loughborough Futsal Club tackling the University of Birmingham at 2.30pm.
The women’s final then kicks off at 2.30pm on Sunday, followed by the men’s final at 4.30pm.
Also on Sunday, between 10am and 1pm, a round-robin event featuring some of the country’s top young Futsal players will take place with England Under 19s taking on a Regional Talent Centre Select Team and the newly-formed Emerging Talent Group.
An action-packed weekend of Futsal action is in store, with admission free for spectators, and the games also being streamed live for those who wish to watch at home.
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that is widely played across the world and is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA.
The nature of the game places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure, and is subsequently an excellent breeding ground for football competencies that can be translated into the 11-a-side format of the game.
