Student Update: Coronavirus vaccines available close to our campuses

As I am sure you are aware, anyone over 18 years old can now book an appointment to receive their coronavirus vaccine, including international students living in the UK.  

Getting your Covid-19 vaccination as soon as possible will help protect you, your friends and your family. I want to encourage all students to participate in the vaccination programme against Covid-19, in line with government guidance.  

We have set up a dedicated coronavirus vaccine webpage to help you stay up to date with the latest information for booking your appointment and walk-in vaccination opportunities close to our campuses.

To help us improve our communications going forward, we are encouraging students to complete a short survey about where you have, or would like to, book your vaccination appointment. This is voluntary and completely anonymous.

Walk-in coronavirus vaccinations close to our campuses 

To meet the increasing demand for the coronavirus vaccine, there are a number of pop-up vaccination clinics opening up across the region for people to access without an appointment.  

Please remember that if you have already received the first dose of your coronavirus vaccine, you must wait 8 to 12 weeks before receiving your second dose. 

Wolverhampton Vaccine Bus 

The Wolverhampton Vaccine Bus will be close to the University at the Molineux Stadium later this week, and you can get your vaccination without needing to book. The bus will be at the Stan Cullis car park (opposite Asda), on the following dates:  

• Thursday 8 July, open from 1 pm until 7 pm  
• Friday 9 July, open from 11 am until 6 pm  
• Saturday 10 July, open from 11 am until 6 pm  

• Sunday 11 July, open from 11 am until 6 pm  

The bus will have Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, so anyone aged 18 or over can get their first or second dose.

Walk-in vaccine appointments at the Saddlers Centre in Walsall 

You can get your vaccine without an appointment at the Saddlers Shopping Centre (in the former TJ Hughes shop) in Walsall town centre. 

Open every day, walk-in appointments are available from 8 am to 7 pm. 

You will need to know your NHS number and present a form of ID.

Walk-in vaccine appointments in Telford 

In Telford, clinics are open for walk-in appointments for anyone 18 or over. Booking is not necessary and you do not need to be registered with a GP, have proof of address or an NHS number.

Walk-in vaccine appointments local to you 

Like Wolverhampton and Walsall, lots of local authorities are offering walk-in vaccinations. You may want to check your local council social media channels or their website for the latest information.

Booking an appointment for your coronavirus vaccine 

Registration with a GP (doctor) is encouraged to access the vaccine, but if you are not yet registered, you can request a coronavirus vaccination appointment as an unregistered patient through a local GP surgery. If you are not already registered with a GP and would like to, you can access guidance on finding and registering with a local GP surgery on the NHS website.  

Once you are registered and have an NHS number, you may receive an invitation to book your appointment, or you can book through the NHS vaccination booking portal at a location that is convenient for you. You can use this service if you think you will be in a different place for your first and second jab.

Please be aware that anybody aged 18 or over in the UK is eligible for the Covid-19 vaccination free of charge, regardless of their nationality or immigration status. Anyone seeing requests for payment should report this activity to Action Fraud as soon as possible.   

Staying safe  

Once you have received your vaccine, you must continue to follow safety guidelines set out by the Government (hands, face, space, fresh air) and our guidelines for staying safe on campus, as well as taking part in regular testing.  

We all have a role to play to keep ourselves and our communities safe, and if we all continue to play our part, we will be that bit closer to a more familiar future.  

To stay safe, please remember:   

• Six people or two households can meet indoors, and people can meet in groups of up to 30 outdoors.   
• Students are expected to take part in regular testing if they access the campuses or live in accommodation.    
• If you have coronavirus symptoms or test positive, you must self-isolate and follow our Covid-19 reporting procedure.    
• Face-coverings are mandatory indoors on campus and in most public places.    
• Everyone must maintain two-metre social distancing on campus, including students who live in a household bubble.   

By following safety guidelines and taking part in regular testing, we put ourselves in the best possible position when the Government reviews restrictions again.
