Join the DEAP Staff & Student Experience group
Staff and students are invited to join the DEAP Staff & Student Experience group and contribute their voice to the development of the Disability Equality Action Plan (DEAP).
This call is open for any member of staff or student, they do not need to have a disability.
The Disability Equality Action Plan (DEAP) launched in 2022 to support students and staff with disabilities and further improve inclusivity.
Some of the actions that the Disable Staff Network (DSN) and University are looking to implement as part of DEAP include centralising reasonable adjustments, introducing guidance for disability leave and in-house training for line managers to promote disability confidence. These actions have arisen from the feedback collated from disabled staff.
Dr Melanie Best, co-chair of the DSN and DEAP Lead "We are really keen to have individuals continuing to represent the disabled staff and student community and to hear from those who have an interest in the inclusivity of disabled staff at the University, whether they have a disability or not. Meetings of the Staff & Student Experience Group will look to canvas opinions on the actions proposed and any additions or changes needed, so we really need a strong voice. This voice will feed into discussions of the DEAP Working Group, who are responsible for operationalising the actions and making positive change. We are keen to ensure that we don’t create lovely policies which fail to make a difference, but prompt action and effect real changes that improve the lived experiences of our disabled community at the University.”
