The Prime Minister has announced this evening that there will be a full national lockdown from tomorrow, Tuesday 5 January 2021. We are awaiting further guidance specifically for higher education providers from the Universities Minister, Michelle Donelan MP.

The Government guidance released today states: “Higher Education provision will remain online until mid February for all except future critical worker courses.” This means that those courses which had already been advised that they would start back on campus this week will continue. All other courses remain online only until further notice. Students who do not study critical worker courses should remain where they are wherever possible and not travel. The previous advice for Postgraduate Research students remains in place - if you can work from home you should do so, but if lab based then you are able to attend.

The Government guidance states: “Libraries can also remain open to provide access to IT and digital services – for example for people who do not have it at home – and for click-and-collect services.” We will communicate further details about the arrangements for this as soon as possible.

The University will continue to provide both academic and pastoral support online during this time and will communicate further on this as soon as possible.

The number of Covid-19 cases at the University of Wolverhampton remain relatively low because of the clear safety steps we have taken and the behaviour of our community. I want to reassure you all that the safety, health and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our top priority. We will be communicating directly with students and staff with further information specifically about our own plans once we receive any additional guidance for universities from the Government.

You can find more information on our Coronavirus webpages.

Many thanks and stay safe.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor
