Upcoming events and activities in celebration of Lent, Ash Wednesday, Easter and more
With Lent beginning on Wednesday 5 March, the Chaplaincy and Students' Union are running a series of activities including a pancake tossing competition on Shrove Tuesday, and prayers and poetry for Ash Wednesday.
Lent is the 40 day period observed by many Christians leading up to Easter, that starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter.
Shrove Tuesday (commonly known as Pancake Day) is the final day of Shrovetide. The tradition of making pancakes is practiced as a way to use up ingredients (in particular eggs, flour and milk) ahead of the 40 day period of fasting. Lent is intended to be a period of repentance and reflection.
Below you'll find a list of events and activities brought to you by the University's Chaplaincy and Students' Union, to celebrate and have fun in the run-up to Easter, including pancakes, poetry and prayers, dance and crafts.
