International Women's Month - March 2019
The University of Wolverhampton will be celebrating International Women’s Month throughout March 2019. This is an opportunity to highlight the research being done across our Faculties to understand both the unique challenges women face in today’s society, and the unique contribution that women have made throughout history.
The month will see several events that open to students, staff and the general public, in particular throughout International Women’s Week (4 - 8 March 2019). These include:
- On Wednesday 6 March in Birmingham’s Custard Factory from 10am, the Faculty of Arts, in association with the West Midlands Women’s Voice, is hosting 'In Conversation With Dr Helen Pankhurst' as part of the Hear Her Song project.
- On Wednesday 6 March in George Wallis Building, MK045, City Campus, at 5:30pm, the School of Performing Arts is hosting a screening of Zero Dark Thirty by Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Picture, with a talk by Frances Pheasant Kelly in advance of her new book on the subject.
- On Friday 8 March in Samuel Johnson Building at 4pm, Professor Tracey Devonport will launch the Institute of Human Sciences Inaugural Professorial Lecture Series, with a lecture on 'How to keep calm and carry on coping'.
Throughout the week there will also be an exhibition in the Mary Seacole (MH) Building organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences celebrating 100 Years of Women in Law. On Friday 8 March, the Faculty of Science and Engineering will be hosting an outreach for over 100 schoolgirls, encouraging them to consider a career in STEM. Further events and exhibitions are being planned for later in International Women’s Month.
