Business Incubator Supports Student & Graduate Startups

18/12/2019

The University of Wolverhampton’s burgeoning SPEED project supported thousands of their students and graduates following rapid growth and further investment from the European Regional Development Fund.

SPEED provides students and graduates of the University of Wolverhampton with free business support, in the form of business registration advice, specialist workshops and 1-2-1 business consultancy. Business owners are also given access to a fully equipped co-working space at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, free of charge for 12 months.

Part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, one of the key benefits to student and graduate entrepreneurs is the opportunity to apply for a match-funded grant.

Building on the University’s dedication to supporting student and graduate entrepreneurs and the success of its Science Park, the initiative has grown rapidly since it was first launched and has proudly supported thousands of students and graduates of the University of Wolverhampton.

From the project’s headquarters at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, Project Manager Mike Taylor speaks of his passion for entrepreneurship and supporting business owners:

“The SPEED project has been running for the last 13 years and is a flagship project, providing students and graduates of the University of Wolverhampton with business start-up support.

“It’s proven model of delivery has ensured successful creation of sustainable businesses and jobs, positively impacting economic growth for the region. We are pleased that the latest iteration (2019-2021) is supporting up to 200 new businesses in Shropshire and the Black Country.

“I’m thrilled we are able to offer those wishing to explore self-employment the opportunity to receive support at such an exciting time."

SPEED is open to students and graduates of the University of Wolverhampton, who would like to start a business or have traded for less than 12 months.
