A message for Easter
Students wish the University community a Happy Easter, reflecting on the signifiance of this important time within the Christian faith.
Daniel, who comes from the Shropshire/Staffordshire region, is in his final year studying biological science, says: "As a Christian, Easter is of significanceto me because we celebrate the reserection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. This celebration will usually involve a really nice time with family and meal, as well as going to church, attending a service, and reflecting on the Lenton season, which leads up to this time.
"Right before Easter is Holy Week, and on Good Friday, which is two days before Easter Sunday, I'll be fasting. This is the day that Jesus Christ was crucified, so as a Christian, for me, it's a day that I remember what my saviour has done for me. During Holy Week, some Christians abstain from eating meat, or may try different forms of fasting as a sign of remembering what Christ has done for us."
Polina, from the Dudley area, who is in her second year of studying psychology and councelling, has participated in the Navigators Society and has also supported the formation of the Pilgrim Group, which meets on Tuesdays, 3pm at the Chaplaincy, providing space for meditation, reading and discussing lessons from the bible. Commenting on the support available within the University, Polina said: "It's really great, especially that all different faiths are represented. It's nice to be able to meet with other Christians, to discuss things, and also use the prayer rooms to take time out of the day to mediate on God's word."
