Ivory Coast students get a taste of leadership training

University of Wolverhampton students from the Ivory Coast got a taste of leadership training when they visited the Lake District as part of Career Development Week recently.

The international students from Africa are studying for a Chemical Engineering degree at the University’s City Campus in Wolverhampton.

The students joined other Faculty of Science and Engineering students studying Chemical Engineering on a week-long residential trip to the Lake District where they visited the Raymond Priestley Centre - an outdoor education centre based on Coniston Water in the Lake District, Cumbria, which focuses on learning using outdoor activities and the outdoor environment.

Professor Phil Cox, Director of Studies, Chemical Engineering at the University, said: “The students experienced an excellent week of team building and mastering a variety of difficult challenges which included navigating a route by land and water to meet other teams and identify a number of landmarks on the way.

“For many it was the first time they had seen frost so it really was an adventure for them.

“We have engaged with the Ivory Coast government for a number of years, with more than 30 students learning how to be petrochemical engineers in order to develop the country’s new petrochemical industry but this is the first time they have taken part in Career Development Week which was a real adventure for them.”

Anyone interested in studying Chemical Engineering at the University should register for the next Open Day on Saturday 15th June 2019.
