There are many career opportunities available to graduates within public, private and voluntary sectors such as tourism officer, travel agency manager, holiday resort manager, tour manager, visitor centre manager and attractions manager. Previous graduates have gained positions with The National Trust, English Heritage and The London Tourist Office.

The Leisure department bring an added dimension to the teaching on your course. We have worked in your industries, owned our own leisure businesses and continue to work on consultancy projects with industry partners, which ensures that we are able to bring your learning experience to life.

Our range of publications, research and textbooks, including Event Management, Tourism, Research Themes for Events, Hospitality Business, Sport Management, Research Themes for Tourism, Key Concepts in Tourism and Operations Management in the Travel Industry are all published internationally. 

We are members of all the major industry bodies and contribute to their future direction and leadership through our roles on their executive committees. We continue to host National Conferences and Events at the University for The Tourism Society, The Association for Event Management Education, The Council for Hospitality Management Education and The Tourism Management Institute.

As a graduate of this course you will:

  1. Have the ability and knowledge necessary to work within the dynamic, changing and increasingly technology-reliant global tourism industry
  2. Have the skills to work in a range of tourism business environments, supported by a knowledge and understanding of concepts and characteristics of tourism and related business functions such as Marketing, Human Resources, Strategy and Operations Management
  3. To be able to identify the uniqueness of contemporary tourism resources and develop these into exciting local, regional, national or international tourism products
  4. To be able to develop and analyse information and effectively communicate this to colleagues, managers and customers to support business development
  5. To understand the influence and impacts of tourism upon the community, environment and economy, and the careful balance required to develop tourism locally, nationally and globally
  6. Be able to develop critical evaluative skills, generate knowledge and implement proposed solution towards development and management of tourism projects/business.

Other Requirements

Students must usually have studied for a minimum of two years post GCSE level. However, we will consider applications from mature students who do not have two years of post-16 study, where they have relevant work experience. Please see http://wlv.ac.uk/mature for further information.

 

The University also offers a range of Bursaries and Scholarships in addition to other financial support packages

Tuition Fees Loan: If you wish, you can take out a Government Student Loan which covers the full course fee. You pay it back once you’ve left university and your income is more than £25,725 (from April 2019). More information on repayments can be found at: repayments.
It’s available to eligible full-time higher education students and does not depend on family income.

The amount of the Tuition Fees Loan is paid directly to the University of Wolverhampton by the Student Loan Company.
