Physiotherapists provide care and rehabilitation to people of all ages affected by injury, illness or disability, and are essential members of multi-disciplinary teams within the health sector.

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to assess and deliver interventions to patients from different backgrounds, in the form of education, exercise and manual treatments.

Students embarking on the BSc Physiotherapy course will have a desire to practice as a qualified physiotherapist upon completion. Physiotherapy is a science-based profession focused on improving individuals’ physical and mental wellbeing, and overall quality of life.

Upon successful completion of this course, which is endorsed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), you can apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to practice as a physiotherapist. Following this, Physiotherapy will offer a vast range of different career options, in different settings.

What happens on the course?

Our BSc Physiotherapy course will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to practice within the current healthcare climate. These skills will gradually build throughout your three years of full-time study to develop to be able to practice as an autonomous practitioner upon qualification.

Theoretical and practical teaching is delivered from our friendly, self-contained Walsall campus, interspersed with practice placements within the local area to be able to implement your skills and further your learning in real-life contexts. Across the three years, you will be required to complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of practice placements to fulfil the requirements for registration as a qualified physiotherapist with the CSP and HCPC.

Module content covers the fundamental anatomy, biomechanics and physiology, before applying this to pathology, patient presentation and assessment of all age groups and backgrounds. Your clinical reasoning skills will progressively develop across the three years towards the holistic management of patients in different settings and increasing complexity. Collectively, modules will encompass the patient journey and rehabilitation from in-patient, out-patient and community perspectives, towards achieving health, wellbeing and maximal quality of life. You will also explore multifaceted aspects of public health and the promotion of healthy lifestyle behaviours.

Not only will you acquire the clinical skills required to enter the workplace as a competent healthcare practitioner, but emphasis is also placed on the development of additional professional skills towards being a valued member of the multi-disciplinary team. For example, reflective and evidence-based practice, leadership and research skills.

Hiloni Physiotherapy student

My favourite thing about being a student at the University of Wolverhampton is the friendly and supportive atmosphere, everyone is so kind and enthusiastic to help you achieve what you want to become. The campus may seem small but has a lot to offer – a tasty food range in the canteen, an extensive library, a social relaxing time in the Student Union, fitness motivation in its gym, a safe and secure student accommodation, and a well-equipped staff always ready to help you. The course of Physiotherapy has a unique study program that has empowered me to think outside the box – it has an amazing combination of modules that focuses on the key concepts of healthcare and self-development. I had a great learning opportunity on my placements where I was able to gain more knowledge and skills and work alongside experienced professionals. I would suggest visiting the University yourself as it definitely helped me decide my first choice.
