Right Waste Right Place, 01.03.2018

With support from the Environment Agency (EA) this event explored best practice and innovation within the water management industry, as well as the impact of waste crime and your duty of care.  Bringing together the private, public and academic sectors this event provided guidance to both businesses and waste management professionals, helping the Black Country to become a low carbon economy.

The ‘Right Waste Right Place’ event attracted over 60 delegates including speakers and exhibitors from business, national and local government and academia.

Speakers included Nigel Marsh, Global Head of Environment at Rolls Royce Plc who spoke about their Revert Programme and its top down approach to waste as a means of moving away from disposal, with prevention, reduction and reuse presenting the biggest potential opportunities to also reduce cost.

Steve Cawthorne from the Environment Agency and Andy Johnston from City of Wolverhampton Council gave an overview on duty of care around commercial waste on a national, regional and local level.  Steve Cawthorne also shared his expertise on the issue of waste crime.

Other speakers included companies who are already receiving EnTRESS business support including Neil Baldwin of Reconomy, Graham Wise of Environmental Resource Group (ERG), Paul Pearson and James Hill of Dunton Environmental, Rob Chattaway of Quick Consign and Mark Hearsey of Auction My Waste.

From the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Dr Alaa Hamood talked about his collaborative research with Severn Trent Water on the extraction of valuable raw materials from raw sewage sludge and Dr Stephen Wilkinson spoke about his research on the process of biomineralisation to utilise biotechnology in engineering.

In addition to the speakers, delegates met with other EnTRESS beneficiary companies exhibiting at the event; ASAN Wood Saints, Pioneer Process and Fire Protection Recycling.
