BA (Hons) Music for Education and Community Practice - Audition process

If your application is successful you will be invited to audition. We understand that this may make you feel nervous but please don't be! We want you to enjoy the experience so we are here to put you at ease and help you to perform to your best.

Here's some more information about the audition process and some tips for the day!

You will need to prepare the following before your audition/interview:

  1. One solo piece on your primary instrument. It can be taken from any genre but must demonstrate your proficiency and musicality as a soloist. The performance could be either one complete song/piece or two short song extracts in contrasting styles, lasting between 5 minutes.  Backing tracks on CD or from an iPod/ MP3 player are also acceptable.

  2. The interview will explore your experience in community music and education. Evidence of your engagement with either one of these two fields should be provided at interview.

On the day of your audition you will:

  • Perform  on your primary instrument.

  • Have the opportunity to learn more about the course

  • Take a tour around our excellent facilities at the Performance Hub

Top Tips:

  • Check the timings and location of your audition. We are based on the Walsall Campus. Ideally arrive at least 15 minutes before your call time.

  • Ensure that you provide backing tracks (where necessary) upon multiple media - i.e. CD/phone/laptop etc.

We are assessing your ability to:

  • Perform with confidence

  • Engage confidently in discussions with staff members about future career plans

  • Communicate your passion for music
