Follow your passion - do what makes you happy and the rest will surely follow.

I have so many favourite memories! The biggest highlight has to be teaching in Belgium for a month. This was arranged by Paul Gurton who was a fantastic lecturer and we had such an unforgettable experience. Their education system was so different to ours - not only from a teaching and learning point of view, but when doing playground duty on a Friday break time they put wine and cheese out for the teachers!
My course massively benefited my career because I knew that I wanted to work in education. Doing the BEd (Hons) meant that I was training to be a teacher for 3 years so that when I qualified I felt confident and ready to go as I'd done lots of placements and had built my skills and knowledge up over time. Whilst in my NQT year, I decided that I wanted to continue with my studies and completed my Masters Degree part time whilst teaching full time, this further enhanced my skills and knowledge and was really beneficial when applying for senior leadership roles quite early on into my career.
As founder and director of my small business - My Mummy Teacher, I lead on growing the business in terms of both the products and services. I am responsible for product development, services development, sales, marketing, finance, social media & influencer outreach, wholesale, PR, customer service, events management, and managing the elements I outsource such as my website and design team. As an Educational and Inclusion Consultant I deliver staff meetings, training day delivery, coaching and support for teaching staff, school leaders and SENCOs both 1:1 and in groups. I also take on individual pupil caseloads – where I carry out assessments, create bespoke individual pupil plans and do intervention work capacity building and review and impact judgement.
Being invited to meet HRH Prince Charles and showcase my business to him was definitely a career highlight. Being able to talk about my passion for learning and play and my mission to empower parents and professionals to support their children to do this, to the future king was a moment I'll never forget. Another career highlight for me, has definitely been the privilege of getting to work with so many children and their families. One little boy really sticks in my mind who was a refugee to the UK, he spoke no English when he arrived in my classroom and the day he left to go to the next year group, he had had written me a little note on paper which said 'I love you, best teacher' and knowing the impact that I had had on him and how he had flourished in that year is something that always makes me well up when I think about it! As teachers we really are so influential and can have such an impact on children's lives to make a real difference.
When you start studying you will feel like it's such a huge decision to choose now what you want to do for the rest of you life, but life doesn't always work out in this linear way. It's full of twists and turns and things we can't predict. So follow your passions and do something you enjoy - something that makes you want to learn more about it and gets you excited. You might end up doing this career for the rest of your life, but equally it might just be the start of your journey and you'll chop and change along the way. The most important thing throughout all of this though is happiness, so whatever you do - make it count and make sure it makes you happy. If it doesn't then it's never too late to change so go for it!
