Peter joined the University of Wolverhampton in January 2016 having had a thirty two year career in education and inclusion as a teacher, leader, senior manager and commissioner. Most recently he worked as Head of Special Educational Needs with responsibility for statutory assessment and Higher Needs provision commissioning in two local authorities, Worcestershire County Council [2013 – 2015] and Birmingham City Council [2008 – 2013] In these roles Peter was responsible for the statutory assessment processes, Higher Needs Budget allocation and the commissioning, monitoring and evaluation of specialist provision.

Peter spent the majority of his career in the Further Education [FE] sector working as Regional Director for the West Midlands for the learning and Skills Development agency,[1998 – 2002] as a Curriculum Manager, Director of learning, Deputy Principal and briefly acting Principal in three large midlands colleges. In these roles Peter was centrally involved in change management, merger, inspection and quality improvement as well as taking a lead in relation to provision for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities [SEND]. Peter is currently working towards a proffesional doctorate in education and has a particular interest in the implementation of the new SEND code of practice, integration of education, health and care for young people over the age of 19 and the ways in which learner and parent/carer voice can better be engaged.

 

Currently Enrolled on the Professional Doctorate in Education (Educational Enquiry). Anticipated end date 2023.
