#HelloMyNameIs ... Lynne

My name is Lynne Westwood and I’m a very proud & passionate Learning Disability Nurse Lecturer here at the University of Wolverhampton. Within my work at the university I enable our students (along with my colleagues from the Learning Disability Nursing Team) to develop current knowledge, skills and attitudes around working with / for people who have a learning disability plus their carers / families. I support students in university though the modules I am part off (explore core issues and therapeutic interventions) and in their practice placement. I work collaboratively with the Learning Disability Directorate at a local NHS trusts. Together we have put on conferences and presentations at national events. I am a keen exponent of the power of sensory integration, person centred working and multi-agency approaches. I engage actively with Twitter around the subject area of Learning Disability participating in #WeLDNurses Twitter Chats about national & local subjects. I work collaboratively across the Faculty of Education Health & Wellbeing & wider university were possible increasing the opportunities available for our student nurses. I have engaged in some research with the WIDEN group exploring the thoughts and feelings of people who have learning disabilities around the topic of Parliament and the 2015 General Election. In 2019 I was published in a book and also had 2 articles published within national journals (for greater detail look at publications). Ensuring our students feel valued and nurtured is my passion as through this future workforce I hope to support change for the care and support of people who have a learning disability.
