My main teaching areas have been Modern European History and War Studies and I was for many years the Subject leader for War Studies.

My current research activities and publications concern the East German Ministry of State Security, Vietnamese migration to the GDR, and doping in top-level sport.

Professional body membership and roles

Member of German History Society, Shropshire Place Names Society, the British Philosophy of Sport Association, and the International Association for the Study of German Politics.
