Professor Jester (Rebecca) joined FEHW as Professor of Nursing in July 2017. She qualified as a registered nurse in the UK in 1985 and worked in a number of orthopaedic settings in the UK and Sweden before completing a BSc (Hons) Education Studies in Nursing at UoW in 1995 and embarking upon a clinical academic career. Rebecca was awarded a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Birmingham in 2001 and was awarded a personal chair (professorship) in Orthopaedic Nursing in 2008 by Keele University.

Throughout her academic career she has continued to work part time as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Orthopaedics. Rebecca’s honorary positions include: Visiting Professor of Orthopaedic Nursing Research at the University of Southern Denmark, Visiting Professor London South Bank University, Honorary Advisor to The Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Nursing and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Trauma and Orthopaedic Nursing.

Rebecca has authored a number of leading text books in orthopaedic and rehabilitation nursing and has a track record of research and associated publications in clinical research (orthopaedic care, lower limb joint arthroplasty and service improvement and innovation). She has a track record of evaluation consultancy focused on acute care in patients’ home (Hospital at Home) and developing educational resources to support nursing knowledge and skills. Research interests

Current Research Projects

Research into how patients’ expectations before and following primary total knee replacement are assessed and evaluated and the relationship between expectation, satisfaction and outcome.

Research into overweight and obese patients’ experiences of weight loss and weight management following primary total knee replacement and how staff support these patients.

Research into the experiences of patients with co-morbidities and/or multiple joint pathology in understanding and completing patient reported outcome measures in orthopaedics.

Support of Dr Moses Murandu in a project with University of Botswana to improve chronic wound care for patients in Botswana – GCRF funding application under consideration.
