Prior to joining the University, Balbir worked in Primary Schools for eleven years where she accepted the role as a Leading Mathematics Teacher and worked with the Local Authority on various issues related to primary mathematics and EAL.  Following this, she accepted the post of senior lecturer in primary mathematics at the University of Wolverhampton.  This role also offered her the opportunity to work on research and professional practice modules on both undergraduate and postgraduate primary teaching courses leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).  In addition Balbir has also been a cluster leader for primary mathematics and lead tutor for the Assessment Only route into teaching and is currently the Lead Tutor on the primary School Direct Salaried route.

Balbir was offered the role of a Teaching School manager with a special school, a role which offered new horizons, a vast array of challenges and the opportunity to develop ideas with headteachers and other senior leaders in school.  This was a seconded collaboration for two years between the school and the university.
