I have extensive professional experience within nursing, nursing leadership, senior management, leading investigations and developing nursing education. My nursing career spans 29 years within the NHS and prior to entering into Higher Education as a Senior Lecturer in 2012, I worked as a Head of Nursing within a Mental Health Care Provider Organisation. Nursing and Nurses are my passion! Of course, nursing does not exist in isolation and I have vast experience in leading both nurses and members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team. Throughout my career I have taken great pride in keeping professionally updated with nursing broadly and more specifically mental health policy and practice development.
I have vast experience in partnership working at clinical, operational and strategic level. My areas of expertise I consider to include the following; professional standards of mental health nursing practice, leadership in mental health, management development. Mental health innovation and service improvement, quality, nursing history, fundamentals of care and collaborative partnerships with service users. Within my current portfolio of teaching I am involved in pre-registration education of nurses with regard to long term conditions, service improvement, leading and managing care and developing the autonomus mental health practitioner. I have also built a portfolio of best practice in terms of Personal Tutoring and offer a consultancy approach to service user involvement and collaboration in the planning and delivery of nurse education.
I also play a lead role as an executive member of the Royal College of Nursing taking responsibility for the development of delivery of Local Learning Events across the Black Country location. I have had the professional pleasure of a long and extensive career and am now privileged to be taking this experience to contribute to the education of our nurses of the future.
