Nikki Pountney

Nicola is a third year student studying at the University of Wolverhampton doing the RN diploma adult branch. Nicola always had an interest with working with people and chose nursing after working for social services supporting elderly people in their homes. Following this Nicola worked with children with learning disabilities. Nicola is 32 with a young family, since being on the course Nicola has thrived and passed the entire course to date with very good grades; as well as having achieved all clinical skills. Nicola works really hard to achieve a balance of university and family life.

The experience of nurse training and involvement in community care and respite care has given Nicola a realistic view of nursing leadership and believes that this can only be achieved by working within a team including the patient and carers. Nicola applied for the junior leadership academy as she felt that this would be an excellent opportunity to be involved in a new approach towards leadership in the health service, with the added support of an experienced mentor.
