Secondary Chemistry Subject Knowledge Enhancement 8-week Course

This is a very intensive, 8-week subject knowledge enhancement course for those beginning initial teacher training in Secondary Chemistry. You will cover a range of relevant school based content at key stage 3, 4 and post 16. 

This course is intended for those preparing to teach Chemistry. Consequently, it also includes elements of Biology and Physics suitable to the areas encountered in secondary teaching.

Am I eligible for this SKE course?

To be eligible trainees must:

  • Not be going onto an undergraduate course.
  • Not already hold qualified teacher status.
  • Have agreement from their ITT provider that they should attend.

Funding

An DfE bursary is payable to participants if eligible. A training bursary of £200 per week is available for eligible course participants. For further information, please visit the Department of Education website.

(Please note those with a 3rd class degree are not eleigible for a bursary and no bursary funding can be paid until the final degree grade is confirmed.)

Bursary payments are made monthly with the first month in arrears.

Sessions take place at the University’s Walsall Campus. Sessions usually run between 9am and 4pm.
