Fashion student’s design work to go on sale

Final year Fashion and Textiles student, Kelly Rowe has had one of her designs chosen by More by Design, a lifestyle company based at the Custard Factory in Birmingham.

More by Design set the competition for all our final year students whereby the students had to work within set guidelines to come up with their own themes and inspirations based on global trends research and their own individual areas of interest.

The winning design, “Woodland Hare”, will now become part of the company’s Spring/Summer outdoor living range; going into production as a deckchair, director’s chair and footstool.

Kelly said: “I’m delighted that my work has been selected by More by Design. I have always wanted to develop mild style and I enjoy drawing and illustrating the natural world. This is a brilliant opportunity for me to get my work out there.”

Heather Ashworth, senior designer at More by Design, said of the design: “We love Kelly’s illustrations and are looking to collaborating with her again in the future. The seating should be in our shops in Birmingham and Alresford by the middle of May as well as being on our website.”

Yve Houghton, senior lecturer in Fashion and Textiles, is proud of Kelly’s achievements and told us: “We have a consistent track record of producing highly creative students who understand commercial requirements and consumer trends, making them highly employable within the industry. Working on live projects while they are at university adds to the student experience by raising awareness and understanding of commercial parameters while developing and enhancing their knowledge of different product areas”.

The Fashion and Textiles Department is always interested in collaborating with all forms of industry. Initial enquiries can be made by contacting Sharon Watts, Fashion and Textiles course leader, email: s.watts.wlv.ac.uk or telephone: 01902 321916.
