Drama graduates get a taste of theatre life

Recent graduates from BA (Hons) Drama have been taking part in the REP theatre’s graduate springboard week.

The REP put on a week of activities aimed at helping young graduates understand more about the theatre industry and helping them take the next step in their careers.

The week’s activities include:

• Visits to other Birmingham arts organisations & meeting their staff
• Public speaking workshop
• Marketing workshop
• Budgeting projects
• Buildings & Access
• Community Engagement
• Applying for funding
• Sessions with REP staff
• Job application technique / CV surgery
• Interview technique

Hardeep Kaur, who is graduating in September, was selected to take part following her application where she gave a list of reasons as to how the experience would help her career.

She told us: “During the week, we met various professionals; all who had given up their time to speak to us about the Arts and their job roles. We had various discussions about the different careers and opportunities available – both voluntary and paid work.

“The experience taught me to accept as many opportunities that are available in order to develop experience within the Arts field. During this week, we also met people from other organisations (SHOUT, IKON and MAC); we explored job applications, CV’s and funding applications!

“Overall, it has been such a successful and valuable experience as I can take all the useful advice away with me and plan my future.”

Fellow graduate, Emma Jennings, who also took part said: “It was such a valuable experience that has helped me to start planning my career.”
