Contemporary Music for All festival

Our students took part in the Contemporary Music for All (CoMA) Festival over the weekend of 5-6 March.

COMAThis was a national event organised by CoMA with several professional ensembles and orchestras around the country. The University hosted the first day of rehearsals at the Performance Hub, which included the West Midlands/East Midlands CoMA groups and members of BCMG (Birmingham Contemporary Music Group).

It included works by two visiting internationally recognised professional composers: Michael Finnissy (who conducted the combined rehearsal) and Tansy Davis (whose piece was newly commissioned for the event). The festival culminated in a public performance at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham. It is suggested that this become a biennial event, and if so, would provide excellent opportunities for future music students to become involved and work closely with top professional musicians.
