Law School first to receive new accreditation

The University of Wolverhampton has become the first UK Law School to receive accreditation to offer a legal course under new professional body rules.

The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) introduced new accreditation rules this year and the University of Wolverhampton Law School has become the first to gain the thumbs up.

A panel visited the University to assess documentation on teaching standards, quality measures and interviewed a number of students on the course.

They also visited key student support staff, the library and other support structures in the Law School and wider Faculty.

A Chartered Legal Executive is a qualified lawyer and the CILEx course offers an alternative route into the legal profession focused on flexibility.

Sukhninder Panesar, Head of Law School, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for the Law School and thank you to everyone for their hard work. This validation illustrates how the Law School is at the forefront of offering the most up to date practice based legal education for the needs of tomorrow's lawyers and legal services."

The validation is in addition to the Law School being one of the first Schools in the country to offer a new LLB which has been aligned to the changes to legal education needed for students wishing to qualify as solicitors.
