International conference looks to the future of construction

The University of Wolverhampton is holding an international conference which will allow researchers and practitioners to ‘future gaze’ into the construction industry.

The International Conference on Construction Futures will be held on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th December at the University’s City Campus in Wolverhampton.

Themes on the agenda include Digital Construction, Modern Methods of Construction, Big Data and Smart Cities, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Robotics in Construction, Virtual/Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence for the Built Environment and the Future of Construction Professionals amongst others.

Key speakers include David Canter, Emeritus Professor at the University of Liverpool, Matt Syal, Professor of Construction Management in the School of Planning Design and Construction at Michigan State University, Professor Miroslaw Skibniewski, a James Clark Endowed Chair Professor of Construction Engineering and Project Management in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland and Dr Wei Pan, Executive Director at the Centre for Innovation in Construction and Infrastructure Development at the University of Hong Kong.

David Heesom, Reader in Building Information Modelling in the University’s School of Architecture and Built Environment, said: “The construction sector around the globe is transforming through its exploitation of emerging technologies and use of increasing amounts of digital data.

“Aligned with this is the need for a more sustainable built environment for the future, which is leading researchers, practitioners and policy makers to develop a wide range of innovative future looking solutions.
