Students bring a little Italy to Wolverhampton

06/11/2017

Six students from the University of Turin in Italy attended lectures at the University of Wolverhampton during a month long visit recently.

The students stayed on campus at the Lomas Street Hall of Residence in Wolverhampton and attended lectures in the Faculties of Social Sciences and Arts in subjects as diverse as law, business, history, media, sociology and politics. They also went to two modules of English as a Foreign Language per week, one for general use and the other for business.

The University of Turin is one of the University’s original Erasmus partners and this brief study trip is part of a special programme which was originally set up between the Universities of Wolverhampton and Turin in 1999 by Professor Giuseppina Cortese. Now in its 18th year, around 200 Italian students have visited Wolverhampton in total to experience university life in England.

Annamaria Michelotti, one of the students who visited, said: “My experience of the University of Wolverhampton has been absolutely positive thanks to the teachers. I loved to go to the University here also because it looks like a city inside the city and its modern campuses have been really comfortable in terms of services.”

Eleanor Andrews, Senior Lecturer in Italian and Course Leader for Film Studies, who, together with Amanda Giles, Jules Knight, Victoria Swinbourne and Clare Magson, organised the visit, said: “This year the students have really settled into Campus life. A couple of them also helped me with an Italian class, which was much appreciated by our students. The torinesi were very impressed by both City and Telford Campuses. During their brief stay they visited Birmingham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Cardiff and London.”
