New adult and children's nursing placements secured in Shropshire

14/11/2017

Adult and children's nursing students at the University of Wolverhampton are to be offered placements at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust for the first time.

The University has secured placements for students on the BNurs (Hons) Adult Nursing programme starting in January 2018 and to continue in September 2018.

It means that the students will study at the University’s City Campus in Wolverhampton, but complete their clinical placements in hospital and community settings in Shrewsbury and Telford.

Further placements in Shropshire have been secured for students on the BNurs (Hons) Children’s Nursing course, which is taught at the Walsall Campus.

Sharon Arkell, Director of the University’s Institute of Health, said: “This is great news as it will enable us to educate more nurses to enter this challenging and rewarding profession.

“We have strong partnerships with our existing practice partners and are delighted to be further developing our relationships in Shrewsbury and Telford.

“Placements are a crucial part of the curriculum and make up 50% of the course. They enable students to develop their skills and gain a greater understanding of how nurses make a significant contribution to the lives of patients, service users and their families. This opportunity will enhance our offering to students who come to study with us from January.”
