University showcases Degree Apprenticeships at annual show

02/02/2017

Staff from the University of Wolverhampton Apprenticeship Hub will be showcasing the benefits of Degree Apprenticeships at the annual Apprenticeship Show at the International Centre, Telford, in March.

The Apprenticeship Show is taking place at the International Centre in Telford on Thursday 16th March, showcasing a range of career and training opportunities available across Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire and the wider West Midlands.

The University has sponsored the event which has been organised by Telford & Wrekin Council and the British Army following its success last year.

The University will join more than 60 of the biggest local and national employers and education providers to showcase the wide range of apprenticeships on offer in the region, including Degree Apprenticeships.

Michele Roberts, Head of the University’s Apprenticeship Hub, said: “School pupils have been invited to the event to help them make their career decisions, but this event is not just for young people.

“There is no longer an upper age limit for apprenticeships.  The University is committed to working with employers and other partners to increase access to Degree Apprenticeships across the Black Country and beyond, providing fantastic opportunities for people who wish to gain a degree whilst working whilst at the same time creating employment and contributing to economic growth in the region.”

Councillor Gilly Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Employment & Regeneration said: “Apprenticeships have recently become much more popular with both employers and apprentices alike. For employers, it gives them the opportunity to grow their business and nurture their future workforce. For the apprentice, it gives them a non-academic route into a chosen career.

“The Apprenticeship Show is a great opportunity to apply for or find out about the hundreds of opportunities available.”

The University of Wolverhampton’s £500,000 investment in a new Apprenticeship Hub, which includes a funding contribution of over £150,000 from the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), is part of the University’s ambitious Our Vision: Your Opportunity strategy which will see a £250 million investment over five years in support of economic growth.

The Apprenticeship Hub provides a one-stop destination for employers, parents and apprentices, providing access to valuable resources and support, including details on available Apprenticeship programmes covering a wide variety of trades and professions.

The Apprenticeship Hub team will also be attending the National Apprenticeship Event at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on Wednesday 8th March 2017 and the Skills and Apprenticeship Show at Wolverhampton Racecourse on Tuesday 4th April 2017.
