University proud to support Wolves Pride 2016

27/09/2016

The University of Wolverhampton is delighted to be supporting this year’s Wolves Pride event as a major sponsor.

Students, staff and friends of the University will take part in the parade in Wolverhampton City Centre on Saturday 1st October, 2016.

The parade will be followed by an afternoon fair at the Network House on School Street.

The University has been a proud supporter to the city’s biggest equality and diversity event since its inception in 2012.

Organised by LGBT Network Wolverhampton, the funding for Wolves Pride 2016 is raised from the local communities and organisations.

Dean of Students, Jon Elsmore, who is due to speak alongside the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Barry Findlay, at the opening ceremony, said: “The University is proud to be a major sponsor of Wolves Pride 2016.

“The University of Wolverhampton has always been a place of opportunity, encouraging students of different sexual orientation, background or circumstances to fulfil their potential and realise their ambitions in partnership with a supportive community.

“The University is also committed to collaborating with regional and national stakeholders to raise awareness of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans) and wider equality and diversity issues, so we’re really looking forward to being part of this year’s event.”

Martha Bishop, pride organiser and general manager at LGBT Network Wolverhampton said: “We are delighted to continue to work in partnership with Wolverhampton University to support LGBT students and the wider LGBT community across The Black Country.

“The University is working hard to ensure the needs of LGBT people, both students and staff, are considered. It is heart-warming to see such a well-respected, local organisation is so determined to support equality and diversity.”

The University and the University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union recently sent the country’s biggest institutional delegation to the LGBT Inclusivity in Higher Education Conference in Birmingham to steer best practices with other UK and European institutions.
