International business leader to deliver prestigious lecture

An international expert will share his insights into sustainable businesses at an annual lecture hosted by the University of Wolverhampton and the Chartered Management Institute.

Malcolm Preston, Global Head of Sustainability Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers, will deliver the keynote address at this year’s Crystal Lecture.

The free event, on Thursday, 20 October 2016, is titled the Sustainable Development Goals – Why should business bother?

Aimed at business people, the lecture will be in MH002 in the Mary Seacole Building at the University’s City Campus Molineux. Refreshments will be available beforehand at The Forum in the new Lord Swraj Paul Building.

The lecture will discuss sustainability, the role of business in society and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Miceal Barden, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Malcolm Preston to the University to deliver this year’s prestigious Crystal Lecture.

“Malcolm leads a global team of some 700 sustainability and climate change experts, with over 100 based in the UK, so has a wealth of experience to share on this important issue.

“The lecture will consider what sustainability is, measuring impact and the role of business in society. He will also take us through the Sustainable Development Goals, providing an interesting and engaging event for our business guests.

“We are also delighted to be working with our partners the Chartered Management Institute again on this year’s Crystal Lecture.”

Andrea Pisoni, Chair of the West Midlands Regional Board of the Chartered Management Institute, said: “The calibre of the presenter and the impeccable organisation by the University of Wolverhampton are the perfect ingredients for an interesting evening learning about Sustainable Development. I'm looking forward to this great event."

The CMI Rosebowl Award will be presented to the MBA student who has produced the best postgraduate dissertation at the end of the lecture.

The event will open at 6pm with refreshments and networking, followed by the lecture at 7pm.

Malcolm Preston specialises in the measurement and valuation of environmental, social and economic impacts. He leads PwC’s Total Impact Measurement and Management (TIMM) team, delivering projects for numerous clients including SSE plc, TUI Group plc, TomKat Ranch and a number of large Fortune 100 corporates.

He also leads PwC’s thought leadership on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and, in particular the role of the private sector in their achievement. He is actively engaged with numerous UN agencies and other bodies on this subject and is responsible for the development of PwC’s bespoke tool, the SDG Business Navigator.
