Morgan partnership drives student experience forward

15/03/2016

Morgan partnershipUniversity of Wolverhampton engineering students will benefit from a range of work and practical experience as well as motor racing opportunities following the official signing of a partnership agreement with the Morgan Motor Company.

An investment of £12million in the University’s engineering facilities at its Telford Innovation Campus in Priorslee will see the creation of world class education facilities for University engineering students including industry standard design, development and testing facilities as well as motor racing workshops and two car bays to support the students’ work on Formula 3 and Morgan racing cars.

The collaboration will see the University and the family owned independent, innovative British motor manufacturer teaming up to provide engineering students with a range of activities and opportunities including educational programmes, research and development and motor racing.

UWR (University of Wolverhampton Race Team) students will have the opportunity to work alongside traditional craftsmen on a range of Morgan vehicles as well as getting involved in the annual AR Motorsport Morgan Challenge, a one-make race series for racing Morgans sponsored by AR Motorsport, the performance arm of the Morgan Motor Company.

Professor Ian Oakes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wolverhampton, said:  “Enhancing the student experience by strengthening our links with world leading companies  in the region like Morgan Cars is a priority for the University. The massive investment that has gone into our facilities provides a really attractive course offering for students who want to study engineering.

“This exciting new partnership with Morgan complements our Formula 3 race activities, allowing the students a glimpse into the world of car manufacturing which focuses on traditional craftsmanship coupled with modern design and engineering innovation. From an employability perspective, this partnership will provide an outstanding opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the automotive industry.”

Steve Morris, Morgan Managing Director, said:  “Morgan cars have been built locally in Worcestershire since 1909 and each car celebrates traditional manufacture whilst embracing modern design.  Without a doubt the combined expertise of craftsmanship working alongside engineering students on a number of projects will bring added benefits to both parties whilst affording students an invaluable insight into the world of car manufacturing and racing.”
