Formula 3 racing car engineered to attract attention

In its drive to continue to boost engineering numbers in the region, the University of Wolverhampton Race Team (UWR) will be offering people the chance to experience the thrill of motor racing in the city centre.

The University’s team of engineering students will be taking part in the ‘Enjoy Wolverhampton’ campaign to encourage people to visit the city during the summer. The Formula Renault car will be on display at Queen Street in the City Centre on Wednesday 6th July 2016 from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm.

The team will be welcoming the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Barry Findlay and Mayoress, Mrs Margaret Findlay, at 9.00 am – offering them a sneak preview of the racing vehicle.

Visitors will get the opportunity to have a look at the car close-up and talk to staff and students about the range of engineering courses on offer and the £10 million investment in new facilities at the Innovation Campus in Telford.

David Tucker, UWR Team Principal & Principal Lecturer for Engineering at the University of Wolverhampton, said:  “I’m sure the car will be a big draw for people visiting the city centre as part of the exciting programme of events on offer.

“Members of the team will be on hand to answer any questions about our engineering courses and people are welcome to have a closer look at the car which has been built, engineered and raced by the students.”

Engineering students are taught how to run a car professionally to the standard of a Formula 1 team. UWR is the only University team taking part in the international F3 Cup and is currently holding a top place position after eight races.
