Union members offered course fee savings through unique partnership agreement

The University of Wolverhampton has partnered with unionlearn, the learning and skills organisation of the TUC (Trade Union Congress) to offer their members a 10% discount on course fees – creating learning opportunities for almost 6 million workers across the country.

The TUC works with 52 unions in the UK focusing on issues affecting working people in their local workplaces and communities.  One of the organisation’s main aims is to raise the demand and aspiration for learning, especially for workers with low skills levels and skills for life needs, in line with the government’s agenda to address any skills gaps and to meet evolving market and sector needs.

The three year partnership agreement means that union members will have the opportunity to study discounted part-time Certificate, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses and high-level apprenticeships as well as take advantage of professional development courses.

Liz Rees, unionlearn Director, said: “Our partnership with the University of Wolverhampton is designed to create new learning opportunities in order for union members to develop and enhance their careers. By offering union members considerable savings on the cost of courses we are hoping to raise awareness of the learning opportunities available and to inspire people to invest in their career progression.”

Dr Mary Mahoney, Head of Lifelong Learning at the University, said:  “We’re the only Midlands University to partner with the TUC unionlearn and work is underway to develop an education and training strategy which supports higher education opportunities for people who are in work and want to upskill or those who want to redevelop or progress in their chosen careers. Both the University and unionlearn are committed to ensuring that working adults have access to a wide range of learning opportunities from degree studies to bespoke training courses and we are committed to supporting their progress to a higher education pathway.”
