Part time course added to growing portfolio

04/02/2016

University Centre Telford hosted an induction session recently for new students enrolled on the University of Wolverhampton’s BA (Hons) Special Needs, Childhood and Family Studies course.  The course, being delivered at the University’s town centre site in Southwater, has been developed by the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing and has been specially designed to meet the needs of local learners.

Professor Michelle Lowe, Director of the Institute of Education at the University of Wolverhampton said: "It’s great news that we have been able to develop this programme – it symbolises the University’s commitment to respond to local needs.  We have an excellent track record in working with TCAT and this course is a great next step for people who have completed their Foundation Degrees in Supporting Children in Primary Education or Early Years Service.   We are delighted to run this programme in Telford so that learners can complete the Honours degree without having to travel to Walsall.”

A new higher education course for people seeking a career working in the areas of special needs, childhood and family studies has been launched at University Centre Telford.

Teresa Parker, Director of Quality and Higher Education said: “This demonstrates our commitment to support local learners in accessing Higher Education.  TCAT offers a wide range of Foundation Degrees, HND and professional qualifications and working with the University of Wolverhampton to identify progression routes is a key element of our partnership with them.”

Kathryn Jones, Centre Coordinator, said: “It’s a fantastic addition to our portfolio of part time courses which currently includes further education, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes delivered by both TCAT and the University.”

University Centre Telford opened in April 2015.  It is a partnership between the University of Wolverhampton, TCAT and Telford & Wrekin Council and promotes higher education within the Telford area.  In addition to formal qualification programmes, it also offers taster sessions and short courses to showcase higher education and provides advice on applying to university.  Further information may be found at www.uctelford.co.uk and residents, employers and business groups are encouraged to get in touch to discuss opportunities for local provision.
