Student satisfaction rates at highest ever level

09/08/2016

Satisfaction rates among students at the University of Wolverhampton are at their highest ever level according to the results of a new national survey.

The National Student Survey (NSS) is the largest and most robust student survey in the UK. It asks students from all over the country how satisfied they are with their university, course, teaching, support, resources, personal development and students’ union.

Overall satisfaction rates at the University of Wolverhampton have risen to 84 per cent this year, compared to 82 per cent in 2015.

Scores in categories rating teaching, academic support and organisation and management all rose, while satisfaction with the learning resources provided remained high at 86 per cent.

The NSS result is the latest good news following the recent announcement that the University is 2nd in the UK for graduate employability*.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “The student experience is at the heart of everything we do, so we are delighted that satisfaction rates among our student community have risen to their highest ever level. However, we still believe that we can improve on this position.

“We work closely with the Students’ Union to ensure the student voice is heard and that the University delivers the teaching, support and resources that today’s students need.

“Through the Our Vision, Your Opportunity programme we are generating investment of £250million in the University, which is already having a positive impact on the student experience. We have opened our £18 million Business School, the Lord Swraj Paul Building, and are investing £10million in upgrading our digital infrastructure to improve the learning experience for students. Work is currently under way at our Telford Innovation Campus on advanced engineering facilities and plans have now been submitted for a new School of Architecture in the latest phase of a £100m redevelopment to create the Springfield Campus. In addition, the new £10m Science, Technology and Prototyping Centre is really starting to take shape at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park.

“We remain committed to enhancing the employability of our students, and the latest figures show a record 96% of our graduates were in work or further study six months after leaving us. It is therefore really pleasing to hear that our focus on putting students first is having a positive impact on their experience of studying with us, as well as improving their life chances and employability.”

The NSS is an annual census of students in the final year of a course leading to undergraduate credits or qualifications across the UK.

Anyone applying for a course through clearing can visit the University’s dedicated website to register their interest and arrange a phone call on results day, Thursday 18August.
