Fashion Students take the Catwalk

03/06/2014

Fashion and Textiles students will be presenting a fashion show at Wolverhampton Grand Station on Wednesday 4 June 2014.

The ‘Brief Encounter with Fashion’ themed event intends to reflect the nostalgia of travel and the chance encounters of passengers.

The show will celebrate the achievements of all of our students studying a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion and Textiles at the University of Wolverhampton.

The venue organisers will be sponsoring the event, launching at Wolverhampton City’s Art week, recognising the wealth and extent of artistic creativity in our region.

Student’s collections intend to capture the past with the innovative contemporary approaches of new generation graduate designers.

Final year students are set to showcase their work produced for the Clothes Show Live Exhibition as well as their individually conceived and created final collections.

Students have won a variety of competitions using their skills to produce items for the public for the likes of; First Steps babywear, Poundland’s ‘Bag for life,’ Pretty Big Toes shoe design and Hill & Co carpet design.

Since graduating, students have gone onto secure jobs in the fashion industry with positions as; fashion designers, Print designers, interior specialists and starting up their own fashion accessory businesses through the University’s SPEED Programme.

Sharon Watts, course leader of Fashion and Textiles said: “The Fashion and Textiles department is incredibly excited to be presenting the work of this year’s undergraduate students at such an iconic and evocative space as the Grand Station Conference and Events venue.

“The opportunity to showcase the talents, skills and vision emerging from the Faculty of Arts in collaboration with The Wolverhampton Business Forum is invaluable to the ongoing recognition and celebration of artistic and creative enterprise within the region.”

The show will be held in collaboration with The Wolverhampton Business Forum and will feature creative industries from around the region including the University’s Alumni and supported businesses.

The event will also feature designs from local schools and colleges in the afternoon performance.

Models will hit the catwalk at 2.30pm and 6.30pm.

Entrance is via ticket only and these are available from the University’s School of Art and Design, Molineux Street, Wolverhampton.
