Hit TV show filmed at University gym

04/09/2013

A new series of the show is currently being filmed and for one of the programmes, producers shot a segment at the University’s City Fitness Centre.

The Channel 4 series features patients with uncomfortable or painful conditions which are commonly ignored through embarrassment.

It highlights the ailments and stresses the importance of seeking medical advice while also illustrating how people can self-diagnose issues at home.

In the past it has tackled issues like sexually-transmitted diseases, flatulence, skin conditions and genital problems.

Earlier this month, crew from Maverick Television, which produces the show, shot scenes in the City Campus gym, discussing health issues with people from Wolverhampton.

The episode takes volunteers from Wolverhampton on a trip to the Spanish island resort of Magaluf, where they take part in tests which examine how things like sleep deprivation, sun burn, and drinking affect the body.

The show is not scheduled to air until early 2014.

Mike Chamberlain, Director of Sport at the University of Wolverhampton, said the exposure the show would bring could encourage more people to get healthy.

He said: "At the university's City Fitness Centre we provide excellent facilities and exercise advice for students, staff and members of our local community – our clients come in all shapes and sizes but with one thing in common, which is a desire to improve their health and wellbeing.

“The university is committed to play a lead role in helping Wolverhampton get more active and more healthy, much of which is about raising awareness, so it was great to have the show filmed in the sports centre and gym here"
