Graduate nurse to front NHS recruitment drive

26/09/2013

Jodie BrooksWalsall Healthcare NHS Trust is this week launching a campaign to recruit 100 band 5 nurses and using existing nurses to promote it.

Among those chosen is Jodie Brooks, who works at Walsall’s Manor Hospital, in adult nursing, and who recently qualified with a Diploma in Higher Education in Nursing from the University of Wolverhampton.

The nurses involved with the NHS campaign will star in a series of short films advertising the work of the Walsall trust.

They will share their experiences of working for Walsall’s Manor Hospital and the films will appear online and on the trust’s social media platforms.

Jodie, 21, said: “Since we started the campaign we have already had 30 applicants for nursing positions, so it is really working.

“Nursing is a real challenge but a satisfying one. I love meeting different patients but having more staff would give us more time to talk and spend time with patients, rather than simply treating them and that that time is equally important.”

Jodie finished her diploma earlier this year.

She said: “I loved it. Studying at the University of Wolverhampton gave me a really good group of friends and I had some amazing lecturers who really wanted to know about me, about myself, rather than just teach me.”

Throughout the campaign, five recruitment sessions will take place at Manor Hospital, Moat Road, Walsall, where applicants will find out if they have been successful on the day.

All band 5 nurses are encouraged to attend the open days and apply for a role, whether newly qualified nurses, nurses who are looking to move to a new role or nurses who may have been out of the workplace and are now looking to return.

Anyone interested in a nursing role is encouraged to visit http://www.caretojoinus.co.uk/ for more information about the campaign and the roles available.
